Board Game Design (Also for Erasmus)

Workshop description
Play is something very human and omnipresent. It is about dexterity, memory training, strategy and about testing intelligence, the art of persuasion, simulating realistic situations, learning, failing, teambuilding, acting or simply escaping a boring reality together. The growing number of innovative small publishers and crowdfunding projects worldwide alongside established major publishers is creating a historic diversity in the current board game cosmos. The possibilities are almost endless. In addition, analogue games as design objects combine many disciplines: methodical thinking, creativity, empathy, iterative prototyping and a very high amount of analysis. A wide variety of materials, icons, illustrations and media are combined via a structured sets of rules and must speak a clear design language. These approaches can of course be seamlessly transferred to other design processes.

Learning goals
In “Board Game Design” we will spend a week together inventing, testing and improving our own games. We will certainly also try out one or two other games for analysis. In addition, I will supplement our work with information on the diversity of the board game world and useful design methods.
