Design your Typeface (Also for Erasmus)

Workshop description
Through practical exercises in writing, drawing and comparing, students acquire a basic understanding of the form, function and historical development of the Latin script. Some of the hand-drawn characters are then digitised. Using these characters as a basis, as many lower-case letters of the alphabet as possible are designed, and the white space between the characters is defined (letter spacing). The end product is a digital typeface that can be used to write exclusively in lower-case letters.


Learning goals
To acquire a basic understanding of the origins, reasons and methods behind the formal language of the Latin script, as well as the design and production of typefaces.

What you should bring
10 Bögen Zeichenpapier (minimal A4), 4 Bleistifte pro Person: HB, B oder 2B. Krepptape, Fineliner, dicker Filzer, Radiergummi, Anspitzer. Mit 3 von 4 Bleistifte werden wir uns mithilfe des Krepptapes ein Schreibwerkzeug basteln, was nachher wieder auseinandergenommen werden kann. Die Bleistifte bleiben dabei heile ;–)
